This slim volume looks at the all-conquering Manchester United team in the days when they weren't quite so all-conquering.

Virgin nearly bought my idea, but they were working for Man U and thought it `impolitic`. Soon afterwards they lost the contract to Andre Deutsch. I was distraught.

I have since sold YESSS!!!! through the bookshops, by post - and on the streets outside Maine Road on match-days. Flashing anything red around there makes life exciting - but I always come home with a profit.

Wasim’s story starts when he pulls a plank out of the garden fence, nicks his Mum’s carving knife and whittles a bat.  Next thing he’s sneaking into Edgbaston to watch a Test Match.  A year later he’s playing there for Warwickshire Colts. In his breakthrough season he tops the averages in Brian Lara’s side, but then his career slumps.  A move to Sussex is a disaster, and he ends up playing for Derbyshire for nothing.

Disillusioned, the first British-born Asian to play county cricket packs his bags and heads home.  A coaching venture leads him to the MCC and, by 2006, to the post of Operations Director of Chance to Shine, the £50 million venture aimed at bringing competitive cricket back to state schools.
